We know that the Happy Way product range is squeaky clean, about as clean as a freshly scrubbed pantry.  Naturally, we needed a dosage spoon to match. It turns out that our 100% organic and additive-free ingredients really weren’t overly obsessed with their plastic counterpart, so we have decided to pair them with fully biodegradable dosage spoons. A feel-good move for our Happy Way superwomen who care about the ocean as much as they do about their nutrition! 

So what do you need to know about these not so plastic fantastic scoops? 

It’s an Australian first.

Happy Way is the first Australian supplements company to introduce 100% fully biodegradable plastic scoops in their product range. That is because when our customers ask, we listen. Signalling a commitment to more environmentally friendly packaging, these biodegradable scoops represent the first of many steps to come in minimising our impact on the environment. 

Why not biodegradable bags you may ask? A change in packaging and a move towards more sustainable options often means a financial investment with the scoops alone, representing a 10% cost increase per package. However, Happy Way is willing to make these investments, proceeding with caution and determination to make a difference. 

Why little changes can make a big difference. 

Did you know that the Ocean Crusaders have estimated that there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean? Take a moment to process that very fact. From that mass of pollution, more than 200,000 tons of debris float to the surface while a further four billion plastic micro fibres litter every square kilometre of the deep blue magnificent sea.

So what can we do to make a dent in this vast problem? The truth is, we can start with small steps. One of the biggest misconceptions about the source of this pollution is that plastic bags are the main culprit. In fact, some of the key culprits are smaller sources from plastic cutlery and straws all the way down to those small beads you find in your favourite exfoliant. So let’s start with the plastic scoops and work our way up.  

They are made entirely out of potato and corn starch. 

While they look and feel like plastic, these feel-good scoops are, in fact, made entirely out of organic plant matter. This means that once customers have finished counting their macros, they can leave them outside to disappear into the sunset. Unlike traditional plastic, they won’t take over a thousand years to decompose, but rather 3 months to disappear completely.

And while they are made entirely out of corn and potato starch, don’t let the make fool you because they are about as hardworking as your biceps. They are not only durable but you can throw them into the dishwasher and reuse them as often as you like. Once they no longer serve their purpose, just leave them out in the sun to pull a disappearing act.
