You may have come across the term superfood in magazines, books, online articles, social media, and blogs. But what exactly is a superfood? And what makes a food a superfood?
While there is no definitive meaning of the word superfood, foods that are referred to as superfoods are ones that offer high levels of beneficial nutrients or are associated with the prevention of a disease.
Foods that are considered as superfoods are generally packed with vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fats, to name a few.
Other superfoods may also contain folate, zinc, calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin C, and fibre.
Foods like kale and spinach contain great nutrients, which is why they are considered superfoods! They're also easily accessible, simple to use in dishes, and are a great addition to meals.
Other superfoods include berries such as raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Berries make a great addition to smoothies, fruit salads, and can be enjoyed with breakfast! Superfoods can also include eggs, seeds, and ginger, to name a few.
